World-acclaimed Anishnaabe Architect Douglas Cardinal on his 83rd birthday:
"My culture saved me from the effects of Residential School - without practising my ceremonies every week I would have died in my 30s - with no way to cope and no way to hope."
We are honoured to be launching our latest project on Douglas's birthday. The 4-part documentary series of short films launches its journey with the first season: Spring. Filming will continue on the Douglas Cardinal biography film as well as our second film, witnessing stories of reconciliation from Bay street.
We will share sneak peaks behind the scenes as well as short film sequences in our video library. Stay tuned on this blog or on Twitter and Facebook to follow our journey.
We extend our gratitude to the team at Usand Group for championing this project, to First Nations University of Canada for their collaboration and for sharing with us their Elder's Advisory Circle, to Ryerson University - Creative Industries program for our talented team of interns, to script-writer Maurice Switzer, to cinematographer Jean-Claude Caprara and to all our supporters and volunteers who are making this series a reality.
